UV Water Treatment
Chemical-free UV sterilisation for bore, tank and rainwater supplies
UV water treatment is the safest, chemical-free way to kill bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms in your water supply. It is essential for bore water, rainwater and tank supplies, which can carry harmful pathogens even when the water looks clear. The Pump Warehouse supplies, installs and services UV systems across Auckland and the Waikato. For free advice, call 0800 473 414.
How UV water treatment works
Water passes through a chamber where a UV lamp emits ultraviolet light. This light deactivates bacteria, viruses, protozoa and other micro-organisms so they can no longer reproduce or make you sick — without adding any chemicals or changing the taste of your water. UV is most effective when the water is first filtered to remove sediment, so we usually pair UV with a pre-filter or whole-house filtration system.
Do I need a UV system?
If your home is supplied by a bore, rainwater tank, stream or any untreated source, UV treatment is strongly recommended to protect your family from waterborne illness. Town-supply homes generally do not need UV. If you are unsure, a simple water test will tell you whether bacteria are present — we can arrange testing and recommend the right system for your flow rate and household size.
UV lamps, quartz sleeves & spare parts
A UV system only protects you if the lamp is working. UV lamps should be replaced every 12 months, and quartz sleeves cleaned or replaced as needed, to maintain full disinfection. We stock replacement UV lamps, quartz sleeves and ballasts for all major systems, and offer a reminder service so you never run an expired lamp.
Treating bore or tank water often needs both filtration and UV. See our water filtration systems and bore water treatment pages, or read the Water Contaminants Guide. Call 0800 473 414 or visit our Auckland or Hamilton store for free, expert advice.
