How And Why Do You Change Your Water Filters?
Why do you change your water filters?
We often get people asking why it is so important to change water filters. This is a great question and the there are several reasons why this is so important. Simply put, as more and more water passes through the filter it develops a layer of grime on the outside of the filter. This grime is a build up of all the impurities that have been removed from the water. This layer impacts the filters ability to do the job that it was designed to do, therefore increasing the chances of impurities passing through the filter, which could result in illness.
This layer of grime also reduces the flow capabilities of your filter system by creating an extra layer of resistance that the water has to pass through. This means that the water has more difficulty flowing through the filters and results in the pump having to work harder to keep up with your water demands. This uses more power and can eventually cause your pump to burn out.
As a result of this, and in order to ensure the most efficient, reliable and economical usage of the system we generally recommend that filters are replaced every six months. However, there are circumstances where filters may need to be changed more frequently and so we suggest you check your filters more often than every six months in case an early filter change is required. Excessive buildup of sediment on the filter may occur when you are filtering especially dirty water, for instance after heavy rains. This may be exacerbated if there is a sediment build up in your tank. Seasonal influences can also affect filters, for example large amounts of pollen may enter the tank during spring, or during autumn leaves may enter the system.
Pump Warehouse recommends a prefilter system be installed on all water tanks to prevent the debris and sediment from entering the tank in the first place.
